Copa Chivas - GUadalajara, Mexico

The FCGS 2015s and 2016s had an unforgettable experience at Copa Chivas in Guadalajara, combining high-level soccer with an incredible cultural adventure. The trip began with the excitement of the tournament opening ceremonies at Akron Stadium, where the players got to experience the energy and tradition of Copa Chivas alongside teams from around the world. One of the biggest challenges was acclimating to Guadalajara’s elevation, but both teams adjusted quickly and competed with tremendous effort. The 2016s finished with a 1-2-0 record, earning one win and two hard-fought ties, while the 2015s battled their way to a 2-1-0 record, with two impressive victories and one loss against one of Mexico's top academy teams.
Away from the field, the team experienced the best of Guadalajara. The players and families attended an exciting Lucha Libre match, took a side trip to the colorful and historic town of Tlaquepaque, and explored downtown Guadalajara. Along the way, everyone had the opportunity to try authentic Mexican cuisine—from tacos and tortas to birria and other local favorites—which became an important part of the adventure. These experiences gave the players a chance to see and appreciate a different culture while creating memories that went far beyond the soccer field.
Most importantly, the trip brought the FCGS families closer together. Between practices, games, sightseeing, meals, bus rides, and cheering each other on from the sidelines, the players developed stronger friendships, and the parents built their own bonds and friendships. The combination of competition, travel, culture, and team camaraderie made Copa Chivas much more than a soccer tournament—it was a true team experience. The 2015s and 2016s came home with wins and lessons from the field, but more importantly, they returned with great memories, stronger connections, and an experience they will talk about for years to come.
